When it comes to the 90’s, the first thing that comes to mind is the image of iconic 90’s supermodels with a dramatic blue eye makeup in smudged intensities. There’s no wonder this dose of catwalk glamour is making a dramatic comeback this summer on Tiktok.

The 1990’s makeup look is all about enhancing your natural features with an added pop of colour. From minimal makeup paired with a dramatic red lip and skinny eyebrows to spider lashes, there are staples of makeup from the 90’s that are still iconic today - especially the blue eye makeup look. Carrying over from 80’s inspired trends, blue eyeshadow has always been a look, but it’s the 1990’s style that is the most iconic with a mixture of shades from dark blue hues with grey undertones, to a solid, colour-blocked blue.

The blue eye makeup look we're covering is all about blending blue and brown eyeshadow with no harsh lines. Despite this being an all-blue look, you do not need a blue makeup palette. You can achieve the look using the below Illamasqua must-haves:

STEP ONE: CREATE A SHADOW

The first step when creating an easy blue eye makeup look is to use shade Perdita from our Elemental Artistry Palette with the Small Eyeshadow Brush. Lightly apply along the brow bone and blend across. Using the same palette, use shade Lear in the crease, and blend outwards. Create a C shape swirling in circular motions to create a subtle brown undertone. Repeat this on the other eye.

Apply the remaining eyeshadow along the lower lash line.

STEP TWO: BLUE AND BLEND

For your blue eye makeup look, apply our Colouring Eye Pencil in our NEW shade Debonaire. Colour across the eyelid, starting from the inner corner to the middle of the eyelid. Use our Blender Brush to blend it out toward the outer corner and into the crease. This will blend in with the brown shade for a fading effect.

Add a pop of blue to the inner corner of the eye with the Colouring Eye Pencil. Lightly apply to the middle of your lower lash line and blend into the brown eyeshadow.

STEP THREE: EYELINER

Add a dramatic winged eyeliner using our Illustrator Pen. This will create dimension and tie the entire look together.

STEP FOUR: MASCARA

Apply our cult-favourite Masquara to your lashes for a boost of volume and jet-black colour. Focus on applying to the outer corners for added flutter. Complete the look by applying it to your lower lashes.
